From a distance, the reading is immediate by contrast and mass: the whole is sustained by the opposition between peripheral silence and central congestion. Up close, the surface confirms the layered work: transparencies of enamel, glazes that reveal strata, splashes, and the grain of the canvas; ink and black provide dry cuts, drag marks, and worn edges that avoid a “pretty” finish and maintain material friction.
